Mary Fry: Helping The Community Embrace A Caring Climate
PCA National Advisory Board Member Mary Fry (@MaryFry10) is an associate professor in the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Kansas. She also is the Director of the KU Sport and Exercise Psychology Lab and oversees the graduate program in the area.
Fry says that having the coaches and players buy-in is obviously important, but it is also important that the rest of the community around the team does as well. Trainers and conditioning coaches should understand and embrace this climate. Parents are also a very important part of what makes the climate strong and functional. They can really strengthen this culture by encouraging it when their child is outside of the field. When the community buys-in together, it can lead to some wonderful results.
