Managing Time Between Teaching And Coaching
Steve Kryger (@coachskryger) is an Athletic Director at Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, CA. Kryger has been at M-A since 2008, also teaching math and coaching boys' lacrosse. Prior to M-A, he coached basketball at Hillsdale, Palo Alto, and San Mateo highs, and was named San Mateo County Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year in 2000 and again in 2008. In 2017, Kryger and Co-AD Paul Snow were named the Northern California Girls and Boys Athletic Directors of the Year by the California Coaches Association (CCA).
Kryger as an athletic director, coach, and teacher has a lot on his plate. The way he handles it all is through his preparation. He makes sure he is prepared for weeks or even months in advance. This means creating lesson plans and practice plans well in advance of when they are supposed to happen. This way, when something suddenly comes up, he is not blindsided or flustered. He can find a solution to the problem and get right back on the track he has prepared for himself. This keeps everything he is in charge of running like a well-oiled machine.
