Cavs GM David Griffin: Leaders Can Choose To Be A Fountain Or A Drain
David Griffin (@dg_riff) is the General Manager of The Cleveland Cavaliers. Since being named general manager, Griffin has repositioned the organization for continued and sustainable success via the draft and trades, while managing the salary cap to sign key free agents in the summer of 2014, namely LeBron James.
After recounting how he decided to work in an NBA Front Office, Griffin shares a quote that he feels can be used as a guide for all leaders, coaches, and athletes: "You can either be a fountain or a drain," Griffin shares. He goes on to say that really great teams have almost all fountains, and nearly no drains. Fountains, according to Griffin, are leaders that make those around them better, and drains suck the energy from those around them. Leaders, players, and coaches should try their best to give something to the collective group by their presence. Griffin looks for these types of players in his role as General Manager.
